Dermal Fillers
50 is a new 30!
We live now in the era of technology and science expansion. This couldn’t skip the cosmetic market. We are living our grandmothers’ dream life now and the times, when the age was something, that should be hidden passed by. Not only in my life, but also in my practice I dare to think, that impossible doesn’t exist.
How it has all began…
Dermal fillers have been in use since the end of the 19th century, when the first trials of using paraffin as a cosmetic filler took place. Since then there were trials of using many products to bring back desired volume of the face, but most of them were related side effects. The hyaluronic acid has been first isolated in 1934 and then synthesised to be first used as dermal filler in 1996 and completely revolutionised the cosmetic market and the way we perceive aging of the face.
What do they do and how do they work?
HA dermal fillers are transparent hydro-gels made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural component of our skin. HA creates a supportive environment, aiding tissue regeneration and protection. Normally lasting about two weeks, HA fillers are cross-linked to resist natural breakdown, extending their lifespan. Once injected, they absorb water, expanding to provide support to wrinkles or folds. Exogenous hyaluronidase injections can quickly dissolve HA fillers, allowing for emergency management or reversal of undesired results.
What do we use them for?
In order to plump up lips, enhance or fill in shallow areas on the face, decrease or remove eye shadow or wrinkle under the eyes, fill in or soften the look of recessed scars, fill in or soften static wrinkles, especially on the lower face: bunny lines, under the eyes, marionette lines, but also brow lines and forehead lines as well as enhances the volume on cheeks and lips and definition of the jawline and chin as well as correction of shape – for example the nose. In general HA fillers are used to plump up deep fat pads, which affects face features with time, as well as superficial fat, to smooth wrinkles and folds
Other fillers?
Hyaluronic Acid, a natural substance produced by bacteria, is bio-compatible and hypoallergenic. Its cross-linked structure ensures longer-lasting results compared to collagen fillers, contributing to its popularity. While other filler options exist, we exclusively use hyaluronic acid fillers in our Clinic. Many fillers now include lidocaine for comfort, but we offer a lidocaine-free option for patients allergic to anaesthetics. Dermal fillers have evolved significantly and continue to advance over time.
